MEDFORD, Mass. -- No athletes from the Bates men's track and field team's contingent at Saturday's Tufts National Qualifying Meet, but the Bobcats will still be represented at next week's NCAA Division III Indoor Championships in Boston.

Bates' results from the meet included:

  • Sophomore John Rex (Andover, Mass.) threw the 35-pound weight 59-2.25 on his first attempt in the men's weight throw finals, only seven inches shy of his season-best mark of 59-9.5. Rex is ranked 20th in Division III in the weight throw and will be the 20th and final seed in the event at next week's nationals
  • Sophomore Ryan Nealis (London, U.K.) registered a time of 4:17.77 in the mile, fourth in a field of 12 runners. Even converted formulaically into a banked-track time, it is over half a second behind his season-best mark of 4:13.81 from the BU Valentine Invitational on Feb. 8. Nealis ranks 44th in Division III in the mile.
  • Junior Beaufils Kimpolo-Pene (Bronx, N.Y.) traveled 20-7.75 on his final attempt in the long jump, well shy of his season-best mark of 21-10.75.
  • Senior Mark Fusco (Cheshire, Conn.) ran the 800 meters in 2:01.30.

The NCAA Championships are hosted by UMass-Boston and will take place March 8-9 at the Reggie Lewis Center.
