HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates senior captain Allen Sumrall was officially named to the 2015 NESCAC Men's Cross Country All-Conference Second Team for his eighth-place finish at last weekend's conference championship meet, as announced by the New England Small College Athletic Conference on Tuesday.
Sumrall (Albuquerque, N.M.) placed eighth out of 129 runners overall to lead the No. 19 nationally ranked Bobcats to seventh place out of 11 teams at the NESCAC Championships, held Saturday afternoon in Middletown, Connecticut. The top seven finishers in the race are named First Team All-NESCAC, and the next seven earn Second Team All-NESCAC laurels.
Bates scored 184 points, beating rival Colby by 10 points for seventh place. Bowdoin (232) was ninth, followed by Connecticut College (256) and Trinity (286). No. 2 nationally ranked Williams won the meet with 36 points, followed by No. 5 Amherst (61), No. 31 Tufts (99), Hamilton (144), Middlebury (147) and sixth-place Wesleyan (150).
Sumrall (Albuquerque, N.M.) covered the 8-kilometer course in 25:24.45, 1.35 seconds ahead of ninth-place Griffin Colaizzi of Williams. The team captain earned his first All-NESCAC honor with his performance. He will next race in the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships on Nov. 14 in Waterford, Connecticut.
Bates also competes at the ECAC Championships this Saturday in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
