LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Bates junior Kaelyn Woods finished 14th out of 98 competitors in the women's 10K classical technique race, leading the Bobcat Nordic ski teams on the final day of the St. Lawrence Carnival Sunday at Mt. Van Hoevenburg.
A day after placing 16th in the 5K freestyle race, Woods (New Gloucester, Maine) covered the course in 35:52.7 to finish 3.5 seconds ahead of Dartmouth's Abigail Drach for 14th place. For the second straight day, sophomore Maya Seckinger (Winthrop, Wash.) and first-year Olivia Skillings (Portland, Maine) rounded out the Bates women's top three, with Seckinger taking a career-high 30th place (37:20.8) and Skillings finishing 46th (38:23.0).
The Bates women had the seventh-best team score in the event among 14 teams.
First-year Henry Raff (Hailey, Idaho) led the Bates men in the men's 10K classic by finishing 39th out of 105 in 31:22.8. Sophomore Carter Ros (Hailey, Idaho) placed 57th (32:02.2) and sophomore Tucker Barber (Wilton, Maine) was right behind in 58th (32:03.1) to round out team scoring.
Bates' Nordic and alpine ski teams combined to score 331 carnival points, finishing ninth out of 17 participating teams, three points ahead of Harvard.
The Bates Nordic teams will compete Friday and Saturday at the UNH Carnival, taking place at Jackson Ski Touring Center in Jackson, N.H.
