Woods, Raff lead Nordic teams through classical races at UNH Carnival

JACKSON, N.H. -- Junior Kaelyn Woods placed 18th out of 87 and first-year Henry Raff came in 28th out of 87 to lead the Bates women's and men's Nordic ski teams in classical technique races at the UNH Carnival Friday.

Woods (New Gloucester, Maine) crossed the finish line in the women's 15K classical race in 49:04.2. Sophomore Maya Seckinger (Winthrop, Wash.) placed 30th (50:44.2) and first-year Olivia Skillings (Portland, Maine) came in 50th (53:00.3) to close out the women's team's scoring. The Bates women's 54 carnival points were the eighth-most among 12 teams in the event.

Raff (Hailey, Idaho) finished the 20K men's race in 57:20.2, 28th fastest out of 87 men. Sophomore captain Carter Ros (Hailey, Idaho) finished 45th (58:56.2) and sophomore Tucker Pierce (New Gloucester, Maine) placed 49th (59:17.9) to give both the men's and women's teams three skiers in the top 50.

The Bates Nordic and alpine ski teams combined to score 186 carnival points on Friday, putting them in 10th place out of 15 teams.
