Woods, Ros lead Nordic teams in UVM freestyle races

STOWE, Vt. -- Junior Kaelyn Woods and sophomore Carter Ros led the respective Bates women's and men's Nordic ski teams in the freestyle races at the UVM Carnival on Friday at Trapps Outdoor Center.

Woods (New Gloucester, Maine) finished 24th out of 88 competitors in the women's 5K freestyle race, checking in with a time of 16:06.0. Sophomore Maya Seckinger (Winthrop, Wash.) finished 46th (17:01.7) and sophomore Zoe McKinney (North Conway, N.H.) placed 54th (17:19.3) to round out Bates' team scoring.

Ros (Hailey, Idaho) came in 54th place among 92 competitors in the men's 10K freestyle race, with a time of 30:33.4. Sophomore Tucker Barber (Wilton, Maine) finished 56th (30:38.9) and sophomore Brad Ravenelle (Portland, Maine) rounded out the team's scoring in 59th (30:54.7), with first-year Henry Raff (Hailey, Idaho) a tenth of a second behind him.

Bates' alpine and Nordic ski teams have combined for 153 carnival points halfway through the UVM Carnival. Classical technique races take place Saturday morning.
