PRINCETON, N.J. -- On Wednesday, USRowing announced the 72-person roster of the 2018 Under 23 National Team that will compete at the 2018 World Rowing Under 23 Championships July 25-29 in Poznan, Poland. And only one rower made the team from the NESCAC: Bates College's Joshua Bilchik '18 of Brookline, Mass.
Bilchik and Dartmouth's Evan Dwinell teamed up to make the U23 roster in the double sculls, winning their qualifying race last Saturday at Mercer Lake with a time of 6:50.86.
"As far as I know this is the first time we have had someone from Bates qualify for the United States U23 National Team," Bates head coach Peter Steenstra said. "Josh is a hard-working guy who has a real love for all things rowing and racing. I’m not the least bit surprised that he has earned the privilege to represent the USA at the U23 Worlds."
A second team All-NESCAC selection in 2018, Bilchik rowed at the bow position for the Bates first varsity eight, helping the Bobcats qualify for the IRA National Championship Regatta for the first time in program history.
The U.S. will have 22 crews competing at the five-day event in Poland. Events include the men’s and women’s single sculls, lightweight single sculls, double sculls, lightweight double sculls, quadruple sculls, lightweight quadruple sculls, pair, lightweight pair, four, four with coxswain, and eight.
