WORCESTER, Mass. -- The No. 2 nationally-ranked Bates College women's rowing team won all three races on Lake Quinsigamond today, facing Holy Cross and MIT.
The Bobcats varsity eight took first with a time of 7:02.9. Bates finished 10.57 ahead of second place MIT (7:13.47). Holy Cross took third, crossing the finish line in 7:37.63.
In the second varsity eight race, Bates boats took first and second place. The Bobcat second varsity eight claimed first place in 7:12.4. The Bates third varsity eight was next with a time of 7:30.09. MIT was second (7:52.82) finishing 40.42 seconds behind Bates' second varsity eight. Holy Cross was third (8:12.39.) The Crusaders broke their six seat rigger 500 meters into the race.
The Bobcats also won the varsity four race. Bates logged a time of 8:20.88, crossing the finish line 8.06 seconds ahead of Holy Cross (8:28.94).
Bates will be back on the water tomorrow, April 28, when they host the Presidents Cup Regatta. Racing begins at 9 a.m.
