HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates sophomore Kirsten Pelletier was named the first NESCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week of the season on Monday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference, following her stellar performances in Bates' opening week earlier this month.

Pelletier (Sidney, Maine) tossed a no-hitter in Bates' season opener against North Central (Minn.) on March 6, the team's first since 2013. Pelletier gave up only two walks in that game and struck out 11 batters.

She posted five more complete-game performances after that, including a shutout of Penn State-Brandywine on March 7. Pelletier is now 5-1 with a 0.99 earned-run average and 44 strikeouts through 42 1/3 innings. She is allowing opposing hitters a .180 batting average.

Pelletier is Bates' first softball player to receive a NESCAC award since Kelsey Freedman earned Player of the Week honors on April 27, 2015.

Pelletier and the Bobcats are scheduled to return to action on March 28 to host a doubleheader against Southern Maine at 3pm.
