Women's 800 freestyle relay team places 16th at NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Bates women's swimming team placed 16th in the 800-yard freestyle relay Friday, highlighting the third day of the NCAA Division III Championships for the Bobcats.

First-year Maya Reynoso Williams (Somerville, Mass.), sophomore Erin Bucki (Eagan, Minn.), senior Lucy Faust (Piedmont, Calif.) and first-year Caroline Sweeney (New Canaan, Conn.) swam the event in 7:36.99, eighth-fastest out of 23 squads. The performance scored a team point for Bates and earned Honorable Mention All-America honors for the foursome -- the first for Reynoso Williams and Sweeney, the second for Bucki and the third in Faust's career. Reynoso Williams and Sweeney represent the 28th and 29th All-Americans in program history.

Also competing on Friday, junior Emmy Daigle (Portland, Ore.) placed 29th in the 100 breaststroke, with a time of 1:06.00.

With one day remaining in the NCAA Championships, Bates stands in 18th place among 46 scoring teams, with 49.5 points.
