WATERVILLE, Maine -- Junior Meredith Kelly (Cohasset, Mass.) had 15 of her game-high 19 points in the opening half to lead the Bates women's basketball team to a 60-48 win over Colby College in NESCAC play Friday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Kelly also had a game-high four steals and dished out three assists for the Bobcats (7-7 overall, 1-2 NESCAC). She was 9-for-13 from the field and also made her only free throw.
Sophomore Molly Brown (South Dartmouth, Mass.) was 6-for-11 from the field for 15 points, while senior Brianna Hawkins (South Portland, Maine) added 12 points, seven rebounds, and four assists for Bates. Senior Taryn O'Connell (Georgetown, Mass.) chipped in eight points and three assists.
Diana Manduca led all scorers with 23 points and five assists for Colby (6-7 overall, 1-1 NESCAC). Brooke Chandor was 4-for-4 from 3-point range for 12 points, while Gabe Donahue had seven boards.
Colby took a 2-0 lead in the first half, but then went about seven minutes without a point as Bates took an 11-2 margin. With the score 20-12, the Bobcats used a 19-5 run over the final 5:31 of the half to take a 39-17 lead at intermission.
Bates led by as much as 22 points (49-27) with 13:08 remaining, but Colby did battle back. The Mules got as close as 58-48 with 3:13 remaining after a Manduca basket.
