Humes earns MWBCA Rookie of the Week honors

MWBCA Weekly Release No. 3

LEWISTON, Maine – Bates College sophomore Leah Humes has earned Rookie of the Week honors from the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association for the week of Nov. 25 to Dec. 1, the MWBCA announced on Tuesday.

A 5-7 guard, Humes tallied nine points, two rebounds, and two steals in the Bobcats' 74-54 loss at the University of Southern Maine on Nov. 26. The Phillips Andover graduate made 2-of-4 shots from the field and went 5-of-6 from the foul line in the game.

After missing all of last season with a back injury, the Beaconsfield, Quebec, native has emerged as a key contributor off the bench in her first campaign with the basketball team. On the season, she has averaged 4.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.6 assists over 16.3 minutes per game.

Most recently, Humes – also a member of the Bates women's soccer team – notched season highs with 10 points and five steals to go with three assists and two rebounds in the Bobcats' 113-27 win over UMaine-Machias on Monday.

Humes and the Bobcats return to play in a non-conference game at Colby on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
