No. 13 women's lacrosse downs St. Joe's for fifth straight win

PORTLAND, Maine -- The No. 13 nationally ranked Bates women's lacrosse team rolled to its fifth straight victory on Monday, 17-3, in a non-conference contest with St. Joseph's College of Maine played at Fitzpatrick Stadium.

Sophomore Moriah Greenstein (Glenmont, N.Y.) led 14 Bobcats (6-1) on the scoring list with three goals and three assists. Greenstein scored twice and assisted on two other goals as Bates seized a 5-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes of the game. 

Bates made it nine unanswered goals to start the game and assumed an 11-1 lead before halftime.

Sophomore Cora Hirschfeld (Shutesbury, Mass.) and senior Wally Pierce (Weston, Mass.) had two goals and one assist apiece for Bates. Sophomore Suzannah Smith (Brunswick, Maine), junior Emma Getsinger (Darien, Conn.) and sophomore Alex Briody (North Kingstown, R.I.) all scored two goals apiece as well, and senior Bridget Meedzan (Ipswich, Mass.) added a goal and an assist. Sophomore Kelan McCann (Shrewsbury, Mass.) dished out three assists and senior SooHee Yoon (Lexington, Mass.) collected a team-high four ground balls.

Bates junior goalkeeper Jill Conway (Andover, Mass.) received her first career start between the pipes for Bates and made three saves. St. Joe's goalies Haley Nason, Elizabeth Giacchino and Emma Astbury combined for two saves.

Kat Gadbois put St. Joe's on the scoreboard with the Monks' only first-half goal. Cassie Diplock and Mary Leasure also scored for the Monks (1-4).

Bates is 6-1 through seven games for the first time since 2003. The Bobcats play host to Endicott College on Wednesday at 4:30pm, then finish the week with a NESCAC game against Williams, to be played at Smith College in Northampton, Mass., on Saturday at noon.
