LEWISTON, Maine -- Junior Camille Belletete scored a game-high four goals and seniors Sydney Cowles and Joanie Oates both found the back of the net on Senior Day Saturday at Garcelon Field in a 12-9 victory for the Bates women's lacrosse team over Connecticut College.

The Bobcats (7-7, 2-7 NESCAC) led the Camels (3-11, 0-9 NESCAC) by as many as eight goals in the victory. Every Bates goal on the afternoon was an unassisted tally.

Connecticut College got on the board first when Hannah Donegan scored under a minute into the action. But Belletete (Jaffrey, N.H.) scored the equalizer with 20:02 remaining in the first half.

First-year Caroline Kerrigan (Falls Church, Va.) gave Bates the lead for good with 18:49 to go in the first half on her sixth goal of the season.

Sophomore Sydney Howard (Ashland, Mass.) and Cowles (Wayne, Pa.) both scored as well in the first half, with Cowles' goal coming on a free position opportunity with 13:34 remaining, putting Bates up 4-1.

Neither team scored for awhile until the Camels cut the Bobcat lead to two with 6:47 left in the half when Tina Balzotti scored on an assist from Julia Loesch.

Belletete notched her second goal of the half with just 35 seconds to go, giving Bates a 5-2 lead at the intermission.

The Camels opened the scoring in the second half thanks to a goal from Loesch on an assist from Annie Cornbrooks.

Up 5-3, Bates went on a 6-0 run to take command of the game.

Belletete took advantage of a free position opportunity with 28:35 remaining and Howard scored again with 24:05 to go.

Oates (Charlotte, N.C.) scored her third goal of the year with 23:31 on the clock and fellow senior Cowles netted her second score of the afternoon just 15 seconds later.

The run culminated with Kerrigan's second goal of the day and seventh of the year being followed a few minutes later by junior Teal Otley (Cumberland, Maine) finding the back to the net to extend the lead to 11-3 with 11:35 left in regulation.

The Camels scored six the final seven goals in the contest but the result was never really in doubt, as three of those six goals came in the final 30 seconds.

Belletete scored her fourth goal of the day with 6:45 to go, making the score 12-6 in favor of Bates.

Loesch and Balzotti paced the Camels with three goals each. Balzotti added a game-high two assists.

The Bobcats won the ground ball battle 19-7 and earned 13 draw controls to nine for the Camels.

In addition to Cowles and Oates, the Bobcats honored senior tri-captains Drew Barry (Portland, Maine), Erin Shea (Marshfield, Mass.) and Kaileigh Maguire (Sudbury, Mass.) on Saturday.

Barry tallied a ground ball, a draw control and a caused turnover against the Camels. Shea recorded three ground balls and caused two turnovers while Maguire earned one draw control on the afternoon.

The Bobcats visit Colby on Wednesday for their final game of the season. The action gets started at 5:00 p.m. A win would give the Bobcats back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1994-1995.
