LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates junior Liv Sandford won All-Region recognition Monday from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, after she led the Bobcats to a solid 8-8 season in 2019.
Starting all 16 games on defense, Sandford (Kennebunk, Maine) led Bates in draw controls (64) and caused turnovers (16) and was third on the team in ground balls (29). She also scored a goal in the Bobcats' 11-10 win over Connecticut College on April 6.
Sandford is one of five defenders named Second Team All-Region in the Pilgrim Region, joining Tufts junior Lily Baldwin, Endicott senior Talia Dellatto, Bowdoin junior Morgan Pinado and Middlebury senior Alex White. It is her first collegiate postseason honor.
Bates jumped into the national rankings after an early-season victory at Middlebury, which remains the top-ranked Panthers' (20-1) only loss this season, following Sunday's victory in the NCAA quarterfinals. The Bobcats were 8-5 through 13 games and remained in the national rankings for the duration of their schedule.
