
HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates junior Vicky Arjoon was named NESCAC Women's Squash Player of the Week on Monday, as announced by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana), a two-time All-NESCAC selection in 2016 and 2017, went 3-0 individually over a busy home weekend for the Bobcats, posting 3-2 victories at the No. 2 position in Bates' lineup over opponents from Tufts, Franklin & Marshall and Brown.
On Friday evening, the No. 24 Bobcats defeated 17th-ranked Tufts by a 7-2 score, including Arjoon's 9-11, 11-6, 11-4, 4-11, 13-11 victory over the Jumbos' Claire Davidson.
Saturday in Bates' 5-4 victory over No. 29 F&M, Arjoon defeated Lauren Johnston 11-6, 11-6, 9-11, 9-11, 11-5. She then outlasted Brown's Alexa Jacobs 13-11, 3-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-7 as the Bobcats nearly pulled off an upset in a 5-4 loss to the No. 12 Bears. The win raised Arjoon's individual record to 10-2 this season, playing at both the second and third positions in Bates' lineup.
This is Arjoon's second time winning the award -- she was also NESCAC Player of the Week on Feb. 6, 2017.
