CARLISLE, Pa. -- The No. 17 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team dropped a tight 5-4 match to No. 18 Dickinson Saturday afternoon to open the season.

The Bobcats (0-1) gave the Red Devils (2-1) all they could handle, with two of the matches going to five games. Unfortunately, both those matches went Dickinson's way, proving to be the difference overall. Bates dropped two other matches in four games.

Bates swept three matches on Saturday, with senior captain Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) winning 3-0 (11-5, 11-5, 11-7) at the No. 4 position over Eloise Nimoityn. First-year Natasha Jones (Roslindale, Mass.) impressed in her collegiate debut with a 3-0 (11-9, 11-8, 11-8) win over Aya Sobhy at the No. 5 position.

At the No. 9 position, senior Katie Bull (Sudbury, Mass.) got her season off on the right foot, winning 3-0 (11-8, 11-8, 11-5) over Abbie Wingerd. And at the top of the ladder at the No. 1 position, junior Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) earned a 3-1 (11-8, 11-9, 7-11, 11-9) victory over Courtney Trail.

The Bobcats look to bounce back Sunday morning when they take on No. 21 Franklin & Marshall at 11am.
