No. 18 women's squash sweeps No. 26 Bowdoin 9-0 in home opener

LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 18 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team rolled to a 9-0 win over No. 26 Bowdoin Wednesday night at the Bates College Squash Center. 

The Bobcats (2-1) won their fifth straight contest over the Polar Bears (0-1) and Bates swept every match on the way to victory in its home opener.

Seniors Molly Brooks (Charlottesville, Va.) and Katie Bull (Sudbury, Mass.) turned in the most dominating performances of the evening, with Brooks defeating Jean Davis 3-0 (11-1, 11-0, 11-2) at the No. 7 position and Bull winning 3-0 (11-0, 11-1, 11-1) at the No. 9 position over Abigail Wu. 

Meanwhile senior captains Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) and Kristyna Alexova (Boskovice, Czech Republic) impressed at the No. 3 and 2 positions respectively. Arjoon earned a hard-fought 12-10 victory in her first game before winning 3-0 (12-10, 11-4, 11-6) over Natasha Belsky. And Alexova prevailed in a very competitive match by a count of 3-0 (11-9, 12-10, 11-4) over Clio Bersani.

Junior captain Eliza Dunham (New Haven, Conn.) rolled to a 3-0 (11-5, 11-1, 11-6) victory over Melissa Horan at the No. 4 position. Fellow junior Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) defeated Bowdoin's Lindsey Bindra at the No. 1 position 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 11-3) to improve to 3-0 on the season.       

Polgar's 3-0 record so far this season is matched by Arjoon, Bull and first-year Natasha Jones (Roslindale, Mass.), who beat Lucy Noel 3-0 (11-0, 11-3, 11-5) at the No. 5 position on Wednesday. Fellow first-years Emma Galambos (Baltimore, Md.) and Natalie Bachman (New Canaan, Conn.) also defeated their opponents from Bowdoin. Galambos won 3-0 (11-4, 11-6, 11-4) over Hannah Reiff at the No. 6 position and Bachman beat Rose Warren 3-0 (11-3, 11-1, 11-3) at the No. 8 position.

Bates returns to action on Saturday when the Bobcats visit No. 11 nationally ranked Brown for a match that gets underway at 2pm.
