No. 19 women's squash finishes sixth at NESCAC Championships

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The No. 19 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team came up just short against No. 16 Tufts, falling 5-4 at the NESCAC Championships Sunday morning in the fifth-place match.

Sophomore Maeve O'Brien (Essex, Conn.) won her 19th consecutive match going back to last season, defeating Tufts' Catherine Shanahan 3-1 (11-13, 11-5, 11-5, 11-8) at the No. 5 position. Junior Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) also rallied from a game down to win her match 3-1 (10-12, 11-9, 11-3, 12-10) against Claire Davidson at the No. 1 position. Polgar improved her personal record to 15-2 on the season. 

First-year Natasha Jones (Roslindale, Mass.) joined Polgar and O'Brien with an undefeated weekend of her own, winning 3-1 (11-6, 7-11, 11-4, 11-7) over Rachel Windreich at the No. 6 position. With the win, Jones improves her record to 12-3 on the season.    

Senior captain Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) improved her personal record to 11-7 on the year with a 3-1 (11-6, 11-7, 7-11, 11-2) win over Megan Chen at the No. 3 position. 

The Bobcats lost one match in five games and two more in four games on Sunday as the Jumbos took fifth place in the conference, with Bates finishing sixth. 

Bates returns to Trinity College Feb. 21-24 for team nationals.
