PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Junior Luca Polgar is two wins away from All-America honors after winning twice Friday at College Squash Association individual nationals.
Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) opened up play with a 3-0 (11-7, 11-1, 11-7) win over Williams College's Abigail LeBlanc to advance to the Holleran West quarterfinals. Her quarterfinal match was one to remember. Polgar took on Cornell's Nghi Nguyen and prevailed in five games. After dropping the first game, Polgar won the next two. After Nguyen evened the match at two, Polgar dominated the fifth game, winning 3-2 (8-11, 11-5, 11-8, 9-11, 11-2) to improve her personal record to 20-2 on the season.
Senior captain Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) also represented the women's squash team Friday at individual nationals. She fell to Yale's Aishwarya Battacharya 3-0 (11-2, 11-3, 11-5) in the Holleran North round of 16 and to Brown's Isabella Kearns 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 11-6) in the consolation quarterfinals.
Arjoon, a four-time second team All-NESCAC selection, finishes the season with a record of 14-9. She wraps up her collegiate career with an overall record of 64-31.
Polgar, a three-time first team All-NESCAC selection, will take on Trinity College's Jennifer Haley Saturday at 2pm in the Holleran West semifinals.
