Women's tennis falls 8-1 at No. 14 Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Bates women's tennis team took one out of three doubles matches but was swept in singles play in an 8-1 defeat at No. 14 nationally ranked Tufts University on Saturday.

The host Jumbos (6-1, 2-0 NESCAC) won their third match in as many days.

Bates (3-9, 0-3 NESCAC) will host Bowdoin in another NESCAC match on Wednesday at 4pm.

Tufts took a 2-0 lead with an 8-1 win by the third doubles duo of Tomo Iwasaki and Zoe Miller. However, Bates cut the lead in half with an 8-4 win by junior Kate Rosenthal (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and sophomore Maisie Silverman (Brunswick, Maine) in the middle match.

Tufts swept the singles matches to earn the decisive team win, winning five out of six of them in straight sets. Silverman won the middle set at No. 1 singles, falling 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 to Lauren Louks.
