Erbafina, Stone win first-round doubles match at ITA Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Bates sophomore Bella Stone and senior Elizabeth Erbafina won their first-round doubles match Friday at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships at MIT, highlighting the first day of action of the academic year for the Bates women's tennis team.

Erbafina (Sudbury, Mass.) and Stone (Concord, Mass.), Bates' No. 1 doubles team last year, downed Tufts duo Julia Keller and Katherine Wiley by an 8-4 score. They advanced to the Round of 16, where they faced Wesleyan's second-seeded team of Eudice Chong and Victoria Yu, who defeated the Bates team 8-2 to move into the quarterfinals.

Both Bobcats competed in the ITA singles tournament as well and fell to seeded players in the first round. Erbafina lost 6-2, 6-3 to Hannah Atkinson of Williams, while Stone lost 6-2, 6-0 to Mia Gancayco of Williams.
