BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates women's tennis team posted five victories over two days Friday and Saturday at the Bowdoin Invitational, a series of singles and doubles matches with players from Bates, Bowdoin, Skidmore, Tufts and Wellesley.

In singles play, senior Elizabeth Erbafina (Sudbury, Mass.) defeated Bowdoin's Sarah Shadowens 7-5, 6-3. Meanwhile senior Libby Voccola (Falmouth, Maine) beat Jacqueline Baum of Tufts by a 6-2, 6-3 score.

In Saturday's singles play, first-year Lauren Hernandez (Chester, N.J.) prevailed 10-0 in a supertiebreaker against Wellesley's Rosanne Hu, after the two players split the first two sets at 6-4 apiece.

Hernandez and Voccola teamed up on Saturday to defeat Wellesley's Dasha Kostikina and Caroline Dickensheets 8-5. On Friday, the same Wellesley pair fell 8-5 to Bates senior Kate Rosenthal (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and sophomore Hannah Londoner (Westport, Conn.).

The event concluded the abbreviated fall schedule for the Bobcats. They return to action in February with a trip to California, beginning Feb. 20 at Westmont College.
