Women's tennis drops NESCAC opener at No. 3 Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- The Bates women's tennis team opened NESCAC play on Saturday against a tough opponent in No. 3 nationally ranked Middlebury, and the host Panthers defeated the Bobcats 9-0.

Junior Maisie Silverman (Brunswick, Maine) and sophomore Bella Stone (Concord, Mass.) played the most competitive match of the day, an 8-5 defeat at No. 1 doubles against Alexandra Fields and Skylar Schossberger. Silverman went on to fall 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to Fields, while Stone fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles to Heather Boehm. 

Senior Elizabeth Erbafina (Sudbury, Mass.) fell 6-1, 6-2 to Molly Paradies at No. 2 singles; first-year Isabelle Rovinski (New York, N.Y.) lost 6-0, 6-2 to Kaysee Orozco at No. 4, senior Kate Rosenthal (Pittsburgh, Pa.) lost 6-2, 6-0 to Catherine Blazye at No. 5 and senior Olivia Voccola (Falmouth, Maine) lost 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 to Schossberger.

The Bobcats travel to Clinton, N.Y., to play at Hamilton on Sunday starting at 10am.
