Stone wins at third singles in women's tennis loss at No. 15 Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The host and No. 15 nationally ranked University of Mary Washington defeated the Bates women's tennis team 8-1 on Sunday in the Bobcats' final match of the Blue-Grey Invitational.

Sophomore Bella Stone (Concord, Mass.) earned Bates' lone point with a 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 victory over Caroline Mosberg at third singles. The win was Stone's third at No. 3 singles in her past four matches.

Senior Elizabeth Erbafina (Sudbury, Mass.) took the first set from Taylor Diffley at No. 2 singles in an eventual 6-4, 2-6, 10-4 loss.

Bates switched up its doubles teams at second and third doubles. Erbafina partnered with fellow senior Kate Rosenthal (Pittsburgh, Pa.) for the first time this season, falling 8-5 to Ashley Barrow and Rachel Summers. At third doubles, senior Olivia Voccola (Falmouth, Maine) and sophomore Hannah Londoner (Westport, Conn.) lost 8-3 to Mosberg and Danielle Mirabella.

The host Eagles rose to 8-3 this season and Bates dropped to 3-7. The Bobcats will next host Tufts in a NESCAC match on Saturday, April 1 at 10am.
