WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Bates women's tennis team competed at the 2018 ITA New England Regional Championship and sophomore Hannah Sweeney advanced to the second round on Friday.
Sweeney (Franklin, Mass.) took on Williams College's Korina Neveux and prevailed by a count of 6-3, 6-3 in the first round before falling 6-2, 6-4 to Tufts University's Caroline Garrido in the second round.
In other singles action, first-year Anna Rozin (Toronto, Ontario) gave Tufts' Maggie Dorr all she could handle before falling 6-4, 3-6, 10-8. First-year Sydney Byrnes (Aix-en-Provence, France) also competed at ITAs, dropping her match 6-0, 6-3 to Tufts' Kiara Rose.
Byrnes also teamed up with junior Lauren Hernandez (Chester, N.J.) in doubles play, falling 8-2 to the Babson duo of Emily Roeper and Carolina Merz in the round of 32.
The Bobcats are back in action next Friday when they host Merrimack.
