Women’s tennis drops match at Division II Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla.--The Bates College women's tennis team dropped its match at Division II Rollins 6-1 today at the Bert Martin Tennis Complex. The Tars are ranked No. 20 in Division II, and the Bobcats are No. 37 in Division III.

Bates falls to 1-1 in this season, while Rollins remains unbeaten at 3-0. The Tars earned the doubles point with the sweep, and clinched the overall victory controlling Nos. 2-6 in singles play. Sophomore Hannah Sweeney (Franklin, Mass.) secured the Bobcats' victory at the No. 1 singles spot. She topped her Tars opponent, Alexandra Borg 6-2, 6-3. Junior Suzanne Elfman (Longmeadow, Mass.) put up a strong fight at No. 3 singles, but dropped her match to Rollins' Ola Durzynski 6-4, 6-2.

Junior Lauren Hernandez (Chester, N.J.) and Elfman teamed up at No. 2 doubles for Bates, but lost 6-3 to Carlye Goldman and Savanna Fuller. Senior Bella Stone (Concord, Mass.) and sophomore Haley Washington (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) also dropped their match at the No. 3 doubles by the same score to Durzynski and Marie Debruyn.

The Bobcats are back in action on Thursday, Feb. 21, when they take on Oakland in Lake Nona, Fla., at 11:45 a.m.
