No. 34 women’s tennis falls to No. 7 Tufts

LEWISTON, Maine—The No. 34 Bates College women's tennis team dropped a NESCAC match to No. 7 Tufts College 9-0 in Merrill Gymnasium today.

The Bobcats are now 4-6 this season. The Jumbos improve to 4-5 this year.

Tufts built a 3-0 lead in doubles. The Bobcat pair of junior Isabelle Rovinksi (New York, N.Y.) and junior Suzanne Elfman (Longmeadow, Mass.) battled with their opponents Anna Lowy and Kat Wiley at the No. 3 doubles spot, but were edged 8-6.

The Jumbos went on to sweep singles. At No. 3 singles, Bates first-year Anna Rozin (Toronto, Ontario) won her first set 6-4, but Tufts' Patricia Obeid fought back to win the next two 6-3, 10-3. At No. 6, junior Lauren Hernandez (Chester, N.J.) also battled through three sets, winning the first 6-1, but Kiara Rose secured the win with 6-3, 10-8 victories in the next two.

Bates will be back in action on Sunday, April 14, when they play a non-conference match at Wheaton (Mass.) at 1 p.m.
