Recently graduated Bates women's cross country All-American and track and field distance runner Katie Barker is the 18th CoSIDA Academic All-American® in Bates history.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Recently graduated Bates women's cross country and track and field star Katie Barker received the selective honor of CoSIDA Academic All-America® on Tuesday, as the College Sports Information Directors of America announced the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III Track & Field/Cross Country Teams.

Barker (Burlington, Vt.) becomes the 18th CoSIDA Academic All-American® in the history of Bates athletics, and the first since men's track and field decathlete Eric Wainman '15 in 2015. Barker is the first Bates women's track and field Academic All-American® since Izzy Alexander '09.

Barker graduated magna cum laude from Bates with a B.S. in chemistry, boasting a cumulative grade point average of 3.90. Barker became the sixth All-American in Bates women's cross country history in November, leading the Bobcats in every race this season, including the NCAA Division III Championships, where the team finished 17th in the country. Barker also competed in the 3,000-meter run at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, finishing in ninth place. In outdoor track and field, Barker ranked fifth in New England in the 5,000, based on her career-best time of 17:23.94 run at Open New Englands on May 10, her final collegiate race.

Barker was named to the third of three women's Division III Academic All-America® teams. In May, Barker was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2018-19 Women's Team for NCAA Division III's District 1, which put her on the ballot for the national honor.
