NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- Sophomore Delaney Mayfield tallied a career-high 13 kills on a sparkling .684 attack percentage, leading the Bates volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-18) non-conference victory at Smith College on Friday.
Bates (11-7) continues its part of the annual Hall of Fame Tournament Saturday morning at Amherst College, facing Coast Guard at 9am and Bridgewater State at 11am.
In defeating the host Pioneers (3-19), Bates made only eight attack errors as a team, a season low, with a corresponding season-high .357 attack percentage. Mayfield (Santa Barbara, Calif.) accumulated 13 kills on 19 attacks, committing no errors, adding two blocks to the effort.
Sophomore Angel Echipue (Munich, Germany) chipped in with eight kills on 18 attempts (.333) with three blocks. Junior Taylor Stafford-Smith (Calabasas, Calif.) added five kills with one error (.267), senior Reilly Murphy (Marshfield, Mass.) had four kills with no errors (.571), senior Lauren Brough (Killingworth, Conn.) had three kills with no errors (.500) and junior Samantha Schecter (Riverside, Conn.) added three kills with one error (.250).
Bates junior setter Julia Panepinto (Buffalo, N.Y.) notched a double-double with 21 assists and 12 digs. First-year setter Brettney Fuller (Temple, Texas) totaled 11 assists in her collegiate debut. Junior libero Gabi Eustache (New York, N.Y.) also flirted with her first double-double, adding a career-high seven assists to her match-high 26 digs.
Amy Hagen led Smith with 10 kills, with Jody Huang notching 14 digs.
